February brings a variety of meaningful and fun events that invite us to learn, celebrate, and connect. This month, we have planned a rich lineup of activities that honor important causes, cultural traditions, and joyful occasions. From World Cancer Day to the Winter Olympics, Chinese New Year, and beyond, each event offers a chance to engage, reflect, and enjoy time together.

Remembering World Cancer Day on February 4th
World Cancer Day is a global moment to raise awareness and support those affected by cancer. On February 4th, we will focus on spreading knowledge about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of remembrance. Activities will include educational talks, sharing survivor stories, and moments of reflection to honor loved ones.
This day encourages everyone to learn how lifestyle choices and regular screenings can reduce cancer risks. It also reminds us of the strength found in community support and the ongoing efforts in cancer research.
Olympic Spirit and Chinese New Year Celebrations
The Winter Olympics begin on February 6th, and we will celebrate with Olympic-themed activities that run through February 22nd. These will include fun games inspired by winter sports, trivia about the Olympics, and opportunities to cheer on athletes from around the world.
In the afternoons, we will create beautiful lanterns as part of the preparations for Chinese New Year, which falls on February 17th this year. Lantern making is a hands-on way to connect with this vibrant tradition, symbolizing hope and new beginnings.

Valentine's Raffle and Musical Singalong
On February 13th, we will hold a special raffle with prizes to celebrate friendship and love. This event adds excitement and a chance to win thoughtful gifts while enjoying the spirit of the day.
Following that, on Monday, February 16th, Amanda Winters will lead a singalong session filled with musical delights. This interactive event invites everyone to join in singing favourite songs, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere.
Chinese New Year Festivities and Pancake Day
February 17th marks the Chinese New Year celebration. We will taste traditional Chinese foods, putting our handmade lanterns on display to brighten the space. This cultural experience offers a delicious and colourful way to learn about Chinese customs.
Later that day, we will enjoy pancakes at teatime in honour of Pancake Day. This tasty tradition brings a sweet ending to a day full of celebration.

Learning About Ramadan and Monthly Church Service
From February 18th through March 19th, we will explore the significance of Ramadan. This period of learning will include discussions about the customs, values, and practices observed during this important time for many communities worldwide. Understanding Ramadan fosters respect and appreciation for diverse cultures and beliefs.
On February 18th, we will also hold our monthly church service, providing a moment for spiritual reflection and community gathering.
Commonwealth Day and Family & Friends Meeting
Starting February 23rd, staff and residents will work together to make flags in celebration of Commonwealth Day. This creative activity highlights the unity and diversity of the Commonwealth nations.
Finally, on February 26th, we will host our Family and Friends meeting. This event is a valuable opportunity to connect, share updates, and strengthen relationships within our community.
